Country singer and songwriter of Allegheny "backporch" mountain music, Jim has recorded two major albums--"Allegheny Sound" and "Allegheny Mountain," available on tapes and CDs. Jim's last single, "I'm Your Toy" charted Number I on all three independent charts, covering worldwide play. His next single release, "Things Are Not The Same," hits the market in August 2001. His list of accolades mount: 2000--Songwriter of the Year, Golden Awards; Golden Pen Award, King Eagle, 1999--lnternational Song of the Year--"Hell's Fire and Damnation," King Eagle; Novelty Song of the Year--"We Don't Play Locals," Golden Awards, Songwriter of the Year, OCT Radio Awards. 1998--International Song of the Year, "Anne and I,"King Eagle; Gospel Male Singer of the Year, Nebraska CMA. 1997-- International Album of the Year, King Eagle; Traditional Artist of the Year," Traditional Country Music; Traditional Country Award, Arizona CMA. 1996--lntemational Novelty Song, "Rosie's Gone Again," re-recorded, Academy of Independent Artists; Trailblazer, King Eagle. 1995--Novelty Song of the Year, "God Don't Take American Express," Golden Awards. As a 19-year-old private, Jim served in the 187th Airborne in Korea, where he often entertained his buddies with his songs, such as "My M-l Rifle," and "Jumpboots and Parachutes." At 25, he married Donna (Wilson) and they had three children, grown up now--
one a high school principal, one a junior high counselor, and the other a physical therapist. Morn and dad are quite proud. While working his way through college, Jim sang and recorded his
music and lucked out with his first national hit "Rosie's Gone Again" in 1957, picked up by Dot Records. Over the next few years, George Jones recorded Jim's "Not Even Friends"; Brenda Lee, "I'm Your Toy"; Slim Whitman, Wayne Walker, and Ernest Tubb, "What Kind of God Do You Think You Are?" Jim appeared locally at Eddie and Millie Ruton's Hillbilly Park and nationally on the Midwestern Hayride, Wheeling Jamboree, the Old Dominion Square Dance and the Grand Ole Opry. Because he could not raise a family on the money he was making on the road, Jim began teaching in 1963, received his PhD from The Ohio State University in 1973 and started his professorship at the Newark Campus. He has taught for OSU, Columbus State Community and the Central Ohio Technical colleges. The same 23 years, he served as the Mayor of Hanover, Ohio. Jim has since retired. He still teaches at the colleges parttime, but has reentered country music and presently entertains all over. This father of three and grandfather of seven, you better believe, will continue to amaze radio and the music industry. Stay tuned! E-mail Jim: jfullen@cscc.edu
