INTERNATIONAL COUNTRY MUSIC ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER JULY 2000
Mercury Records Bought By Italian Company About a year ago, Seagram (the Canadian liquor company) bought the Polygram Music Group which includes Mercury Records, Universal Music, and various other music companies. Now, Seagram has been bought by the Italian conglomerate Vivendi. The reported price was between $30 & $34 billion U. S. dollars. They expect a massive pay off by distributing the music etc. over wireless internet services in Europe. This proves again the music and entertainment industries are moving to the internet. It's the way of the future folks. The conglomerates are trying hard to control the internet the same way they have controlled other distribution channels. They have destroyed competition where they could and bought it up when they had no other choice. They have monopolized large market American radio and chain store sales. They see the internet and MP3 as a threat to their iron grip on the industry. The internet is too big, spread in too many places, and changing too fast for anybody to control. The genie is loose and no amount of money, power, or wishing for the way it use to be will put that genie back into the bottle. For the first time in 30 years, serious independent singers, writers, and record companies have a fighting chance. Thank God for the high tech revolution! LeAnn Rimes Parents Still Fighting Over Money Momma sued Daddy saying he defrauded their daughter of $7,000,000. Daddy told reporters he split those fees with Momma. It seems some people really just can't handle success. Meanwhile back at the ranch or beach front villa or something, Doctors have told Leann to postpone her summer tour. She has a strained vocal cord and her voice needs 60 to 90 days rest. Correction In our June newsletter, we mistakenly said Freddie Hart is a member of the Country Music Hall Of Fame. I have good information saying he will be inducted into the Lone Star State Hall of Fame, the Nebraska Hall Of Fame, and the Alabama Hall Of Fame. However; the major labels' controlled CMA (on Music Circle South in Nashville) has not inducted him, yet. Memorial Day Festival Planned Ambassador Charlie Ray has locked in a large Nashville venue for his much anticipated Memorial Day Festival. Several stages will be set up near the Nashville airport. The festival will be next May 26, 27, and 28th. That's Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (Memorial Day). Several stages will be set up and each of them will have open mikes. This promises to be an excellent opportunity to be seen and heard, in Nashville. Tickets will be available for $25 per day at the gate and advance tickets for the entire 3 days will be $45. No stage fees will be charged and booth space will be available free of charge on a first come first served basis. For more details email Ambassador Charlie Ray at c4promo@aol.com or call 615-252-8202.

We can't tell them your news, if you don't tell us. Send to "Newsletter" at P. O. B. 271238, Nashville, TN 37227. Articles Needed For Gospel Newsletter Holylandmusic.org plans to launch a newsletter similar to this (except devoted to gospel music news), in August. They need folks who can write interesting and informative short articles on a more or less regular basis. If you've always dreamed of being a newspaper writer here's your chance. Mail sample articles or press releases to Holy Land Music, P. O. Drawer 291827, Nashville, TN 37229. Publishing Company Needs Songs For Records & Movies Jessica Culpepper Music, BMI is one of the very few Nashville publishing companies with an open door policy. They do except outside material and are reviewing songs for television, movies, and recording artists. They need country, country gospel, and bluegrass. Send no more than 3 at a time to Jessica Culpepper Music, BMI, P. O. B. 271656, Nashville, TN. 37227. Jingle Broker Needs Voice and Writing Talent Singers, Speakers, Lyric and Copy Writers, Indie Producers are needed by a jingle broker in Nashville. Advertising Music Productions (AMP) needs jingles using their instrumental tracks or your own. Consider using any of the cuts on the "Musical Wallpaper" collection to produce a voice-over with ad copy / lyrics of from 10 to 60 seconds in length, promoting a business or product of your choice. (To hear RealAudio versions of the cuts on "Musical Wallpaper" go to www.jinglemusic.com.) Acceptable submissions will be offered for licensing or outright sale to the company. Keep in mind that jingles for large international corporations have the potential to earn more but the odds of selling them may be much less than jingles for a neighborhood business that already uses radio advertising. As both your agent and the holder of the copyrights to the music beds on "Musical Wallpaper", David A. Hanson dba Advertising Music Productions, 107 Music City Circle Suite 212, Nashville, TN 37214, will retain 35%, so if a neighborhood business buys the spot outright for $325, your earnings would be $211.25 for adding a minute or less of vocal to a ready-made background track! You are not required to use music from the "Musical Wallpaper" collecton. If you wish to produce your own music and have AMP sell your jingle, the commission for services as a non-exclusive agent is generally 20% of the net revenue (after copyright registration fees and promotional expenses have been deducted.)
