Norwood Carter

Norwood Carter's country roots began in Hamburg, Arkansas, where at the age of twelve, he started the singing of old Hank Williams songs. He later joined local groups playing at fairs, rodeos, and jamborees in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Relocating his country sound to Nebraska In 1965, Norwood expanded his music territory to include Kansas and Missouri. The year, 1971 brought him back to Mississippi, near Memphis, Tennessee, where he continued his music career. Moving to Lewisburg, Tennessee in 1973 brought him closer to Nashville, the capitol of country music. Benefits, fund raisers, and nursing homes became an instant part of his music program, as he gave his time generously to all requested worthy cause events.

Norwood released his first single In 1979, penned by his daughter Sheila, who sang with him on the recordings of "I Don't Want To Say Goodbye" and "I'll Wake Up Hurting Again". His second release in 1981, "It's Good To Be Back Home In Tennessee" garnered air play that led to the recording of "Hot And Dusty Road". In 1984, creating an audience of listeners in Germany, England, Austria, Sweden, and Norway. The "Wood Chopper" collection In 1987, with single releases in 1988, 1989, and 1990, further enhanced his popularity abroad. Song titles like "Hunter", "Marshall County", and "The Ballgame" evolved as his most favorable cuts. Back in the studio again in 1991, working with producer Ron Ogle, Norwood recorded his "Lonesome Memories" album, leading to chart singles "The Life You Drove Me To" and "Gonna Have A Good Cry".

The cassette album "Sows Ears To Silk Purses", a collaboration of vocals by Ron Ogle and Norwood Carter, inspired the hearts of traditional country music fans. Canada was also added to the fan base at this time. Norwood recorded his "Legends" album in 1997 In conjunction to a European tour which found him entertaining In Northern Ireland and Scotland. Fans, for the first time, got to see him in person and were grateful for his personal appearance. Current plans to re-visit Northern Ireland and Scotland, along with England, Germany, and the Scandanavlan Countries of Norway, Denmark and Sweden are in the making.

"Lonesome Man Blues" represents the last Carter single, with new attention being devoted to a well-cut "Legends" album, available on CD.
