I was born in 1939 in Mobile, Alabama. My mom and dad had six children, four girls and two boys. I am the oldest son. I was raised in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and joined the Navy when I was eighteen years old. When I got out of the Navy I became a house painter. I wrote songs most of my adult life, but never got anywhere. In 1992 my own car ran over me and I lost the use of my right arm and have been disabled ever since. So, I got started writing again. I am a dedicated traditional country music fan.
