I was born in April, 1955 in a small community in Eastern Tennessee, called Speedwell. I was raised by a single, hard-working mother, who lived in a large house back in a hollow with parents and several brothers and sisters. My family was very religous and musical. Almost everyone played some type of instrument or had talent for singing. On Sundays everyone gathered around at our house, played music, had church and ate grandma's home-cooked meals she prepared from her vegetable garden and meat from the hogs we raised. I earned my first guitar from my Uncle John by learning to play when I was about eleven years old. By that time, I had written many songs; songwriting was my refuge in lots of troubled times. I attended public schools and went on to college and earned my associate degree in Law as a Paralegal. I enjoy working with senior citizens and teenagers. I volunteer my services to several charities in the community. I am divorced with three daughters: Jenny Lee, Shelly, and Sarah. I have six grandchildren and love spending quality time with them. I have had one song published by International Productions, "Tomorrow, When You're Gone" recorded by Keith Bradford. I wrote "Jenny Lee" about my oldest daughter when she turned eighteen and wanted to marry a young man in the Marines. I had very mixed emotions about it because I felt at the time, that she was too young for such a committment; therefore, I sat down and wrote the song. I believe my songwriting is a gift from God because very often, I don't realize what I've written until I read it back. I believe He gave me this gift of words for my own comfort as well as for other people out there who may be going through heartaches. I hope my songs will help someone else through hard times. If that happens and my songs reach one person, then my dream has come true, and I give all the credit to God because I am just his instrument.
