Johnny Dakota Johnny Dakota

Johnny Dakota (John W. Newman) resides in Vancouver, Washington. He is a graduate of high school and of the following schools: welding, truck driving, elevator erection and real estate. He is also a graduate of an Ironworkers apprenticeship program. John is a retired journeyman ironworker with 35 years under his belt. He has worked on high rise buildings in Los Angeles, the Astoria Bridge at the mouth of the mighty Columbia, and missile sites in Montana. He has also briefly worked as a Longshoreman and as a truck driver. Now retired, he enjoys staying fit by working out five days a week at a Powerhouse gym and walking everyday. He enjoys creating song lyrics and attending church. He is ordained as a Pastor of Music at a full Gospel church. His songs have won many awards. John comments: "I've had most of my inspiration from different aspects of my life: work, U.S. Army, love, divorce, living alone, always living on the razor's edge (high steel Ironworker connector 31 years) and finally a born-again Christian and pastor involved with Vietnam Veterans and ex-convicts (prison ministry). Song-writing penname, "Johnny Dakota", was also my ringname when I was a professional wrestler in LA CA in 1971 through 1972, between Ironworker's jobs.

Songs to Touch Your Heart contains 20 great songs that are about Johnny's true experiences of life, romance, and his love for the Lord. All songs were written by him and sung by Terri Williams. In a world permeated with despair, anger and confusion, Johnny offers listeners a beacon of light, hopefulness and wisdom. He uses in his song writing a combination of metaphors, imagery and witticism to create a profound essence of spirituality. "In The Wind" paints a distinctive portrait of the various faces of love. "Little Angels" is a tribute to his only son, who was murdered at the young age of seven. "He Shared His Cross With Us" was inspired by the spiritual wealth he has attained from living as a born again Christian. "A Big Ole Grizzly Bear" is an example of the more whimsical side of Johnny Dakota's writing style.
